Pauline H. Tesler
Pauline H. Tesler is a long-time specialist in family law (certified by the State Bar of California since 1984) and a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. She co-founded the IACP and was its first President, co-founded The Collaborative Review (for which she wrote the 'Dear Collaborator' column), and chaired IACP's first Standards Committee and first Ethics Task Force.
Her critically-acclaimed practice manual, Collaborative Law: Achieving Effective Resolution in Divorce Without Litigation, was the first book-length treatise for collaborative lawyers. A substantially revised second edition was released in 2008. She co-authored (with psychologist Peggy Thompson) Collaborative Divorce: The Revolutionary New Way to Restructure Your Family, Resolve Legal Issues, and Move On With Your Life, published in 2006 by HarperCollins, and intended for general readers and as a practice development tool for collaborative lawyers. She has written numerous essays, law review articles, and book chapters about collaborative practice.
Pauline has introduced many thousands of lawyers and other professionals to collaborative practice in North America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Israel. She provides interdisciplinary and lawyer-only trainings and practice group/practice development workshops at all levels. Recently, her focus for training and writing has turned to the psychology and neuroscience of conflict resolution, and to the systems-based learning environment created on highly effective interdisciplinary collaborative teams.
in addition to trainings, Pauline provides mentoring, coaching, and case consultation to professionals whose cases are in difficulty, and online mentoring and study groups for collaborative professionals interested in ongoing, in-depth enrichment of their collaborative skills and understandings.
.
Pauline and Stu Webb jointly received the first 'Lawyer as Problem Solver'award from the American Bar Association in 2002. She was a recipient of the first 'Eureka' award from the statewide organization 'Collaborative Practice California,' and is listed in 'Best Lawyers in America.'
More information about her trainings, writings, and biography can be found on her blog, www.collaborativedivorcenews.com, and at her website, www.lawtsf.com.

Training Offered
I offer trainings in basic, intermediate, and advanced collaborative practice, in two-day and three-day formats, for lawyers and (with trainers from other disciplines) for interdisciplinary teams. I also offer practice group development workshops in one and two-day formats, as well as advanced seminars focused on a variety of specific challenges in collaborative practice. Recently, I have been offering workshops in 'Neuro-Resolution,' applying insights from the evolutionary neurosciences to collaborative conflict resolution. In addition, I offer mentoring and case conferencing services online and via telephone and video conferencing, as well as guest presentations in law school courses relating to appropriate (aka alternate) dispute resolution, and legal ethics.
|
Training Conducted
I have conducted all of the foregoing trainings more times than I have kept any records about, since 1999, on my own and co-training with a variety of colleagues including Peggy Thompson, Nancy Ross, Stu Webb, Maria Alba-Fisch, George Richardson, Mark Hill, Chip Rose, Yuval Berger, David Fink, and many others.
I ordinarily conduct six to eight full length multi-day trainings a year, and sometimes more, which--over a decade--means I've presented about 70 or 80 trainings, plus many seminars, workshops, and other smaller events each year. Trainings and seminars above the introductory level are customized to meet the specific needs of the community sponsoring the event.
I have had the great privilege of introducing collaborative law and collaborative divorce practice as a new model, providing first trainings and workshops in many U.S. states and communities (including Hawaii, Texas, Massachusetts, Colorado, Wisconsin, Louisiana, Florida,) as well as in Vancouver, B.C.; Niagara Falls, Canada; London and Manchester, England; Edinburgh and Glasgow, Scotland; Belfast, Northern Ireland; Dublin, Cork, and Galway, Ireland; Paris, France; Berne, Switzerland; Sydney and Brisbane, Australia; Aukland, New Zealand; and Tel Aviv and Haifa, Israel. In Manhattan, I was asked by the Chief Justice of the New York Supreme Court to design and present a two-phase program of interdisciplinary team training for professionals who would provide services in her landmark publicly funded collaborative law center. In Ireland, my trainings were conducted largely under the auspices of the Legal Aid Board of Ireland. The trainings I recently conducted in Israel, with Yuval Berger, were under the sponsorship of the United States Embassy, the Israeli Bar Association, and the Israel Ministry of Justice.

Collaborative Training Attended

Collaborative Training Offered
The full list is too long to include here, numbering over 100 as of early 2011.
I have been privileged to introduce collaborative law and collaborative divorce practice as a new model in many jurisdictions in North America, including: California, Hawaii, Texas, Massachusetts, Colorado, Wisconsin, New Mexico, Louisiana, Florida, Missouri/Kansas, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Michigan, and British Columbia (Canada).
I presented what I believe to be the first collaborative training events to be supported by governmental entities (in the United States, Ireland, and Israel). The Chief Justice of the New York Supreme Court invited me to design and present a two-phase program of interdisciplinary team trainings in New York for professionals who would then provide services in her landmark publicly funded collaborative law center which her office launched and funded in Manhattan. In Ireland, my trainings (which took place over a period of five years and ultimately trained several hundred collaborative divorce lawyers) were conducted primarily under the auspices of the Legal Aid Board of Ireland. The trainings I recently conducted in Israel with Yuval Berger, were under the joint sponsorship of the United States Department of State, the Israeli Bar Association, and the Israel Ministry of Justice.
The full list of trainings and workshops I have conducted since the late 1990s numbers well over a hundred.
