Peggy Thompson

Dr. Thompson. is a founder and co-director of Collaborative Divorce Associates and Family Psychological Services in Orinda California, and a co- founder of the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals and of Collaborative Divorce Trainings. She has been a licensed psychologist for 30 years specializing in treating children and families. For over eighteen years she has been intensely involved in the divorce process in such roles as custody evaluator, special master and high conflict counselor. During the last fifteen years Dr. Thompson has been leading the development of the Collaborative Divorce process, together with teaching this systematic, interdisciplinary approach to the divorce process. Dr. Thompson is deeply engaged in the application of Appreciative Inquiry to the collaborative process. She is convinced AI has the potential to enhance the ability to work more collaboratively with one another, increase success with clients, strengthen, expand and enhance the effectiveness of IACP. Dr. Thompson is co-author (with Dr. A. Rodney Nurse) of 'Collaborative Divorce: A Humane, interdisciplinary Approach,' a chapter in Innovations in Practice: A Source Book (L. Vande Creek, Ed.),Resources Press in January of 2000. and Collaborative Divorce: A New, Interdisciplinary Approach American Journal of Family Law Vol 13 (1999) Dr. Thompson is also a co-author of Divorce: A Problem to be Solved, Not a Battle to be Fought, (Brookwood 1997) Dr. Thompson is co- author of Collaborative Divorce : A Family Center approach ,a professional guide to collaborative divorce model to be published by APA with an anticipated pub fall 2008 and co author with Pauline Tesler of Collaborative Divorce, Harper Collins publication date June 06

Type Of Practice
As one of the developers of the collaborative team model and a founder of IACP, I have devoted the last 18 years to the development and expansion of Collaborative Practice. My experience is that Collaborative Practice an ongoing learning process; my understanding continues to evolve and deepen as I practice, teach, write, and dialogue with other professionals. I have just finished co-authoring, with my husband Rod Nurse, COLLABORATIVE DIVORCE: A FAMILY CENTERED APPROACH. We hope it will be a good handbook for the collaborative mental health professional, as well as educate the broader mental health community. I look forward to continuing my work with collaborative professionals to help improve our teamwork and broaden our understanding of how best to assist couples and families make the difficult transition of divorce
