Syd Sharples, LCSW (Mental Health Professional)

As an allied professional on an interdisciplinary collaborative team, I assist divorcing couples and their attorneys through the process of divorce. Helping with the painful and difficult-to-manage emotions that inevitably arise, facilitating communication between all parties involved in the collaborative process, working with parents on the creation of parenting and possession plans that best serve the needs of the children, and mediating issues that arise during the process are some of the ways that I get involved. My hope is that I help divorcing couples lay the groundwork for a post-divorce relationship that best serves the needs of their family as it assumes a new form.

As one of the first collaboratively trained mental health professionals in Austin, I have been so gratified to see the evolution of the team model of collaborative practice. I am a strong believer - personally and professionally - in families being successfully re-formed as a result of divorce, and see collaborative as a wise investment towards that successful re-formation.
