Karen S Fenchel, JD (Lawyer)

Working in family law for over fifteen years, I have seen the negative effects of divorce on families. I have met with individuals who are intimidated by the costly legal system and have fears about their future. As an educator in both elementary and special education, I have gained tools to enhance my ability to work with families in crisis. As a certified family law specialist, I have acquired the knowledge to assist clients in cases involving complex financial issues. In contrast to litigation, both mediation and collaborative practice support the family and enable individuals to gain control of their lives and move on in a constructive manner. My goal is to create outcomes that support family goals and values, considering the needs of the divorcing couple as well as their children.

  • General Comments
As a family law practicioner for over twenty years, I believe that collaborative practice is the best choice for most families. It includes the advantages of both of both litigation and mediation. As in litigation, each party has an attorney to provide legal advice, guidance and support. Like mediation, the parties cooperate in a non adversarial setting, committing to both an open information gathering and sharing process.
