| General Comments |
| I am a 26+ year attorney who has seen and participated in the carnage of families in trial situations. Like most other family law attorneys, I have long wished for a better way. Mediation allowed for less acrimony, but in Texas, it really does not give clients the chance to actively participate together in the resolution of their process. All too often, in my opinion, it results in a compromise that ends the litigation, but does little to facilitate any greater understanding or agreement between the parties. I believe that collaborative law allows for the value-added results of greater understanding and recaptured friendship in family law cases, rather than the destruction of litigation or the exhausted surrender of mediation. In our society where divorce is prevalent, we must find some way to make divorce a process that is less destructive on the restructured family. I believe that collaborative law is that way. |
