Description:More experience with Collaborative cases often also meets with more challenges.  Problems arise even when everyone is acting with the best of intentions and a case that started well may no longer feel Collaborative. • Clients may refuse to meet • A professional may not seem “collaborative” • Tensions flow from clients to professionals. • The team may be in disarray. • Clients may make demands contrary to the Collaborative system. The process can feel as if it is spinning out of control, and it may seem that the only way to finish the case is with traditional negotiation or positional bargaining. Collaborative professionals and clients alike may wonder what happened to the promise of a different way to resolve conflict. These “break points”, or challenges to process, tend to occur at key parts of the Collaborative Process. In this advanced training we will examine the most common places where the process breaks down. We will analyze strategies to keep both clients and professionals focused on what is important to the parties throughout the process, and pay attention to the particular challenges that occur in negotiating options. We will also examine how team dysfunction contributes to break points.
