The purpose of the IACP Leadership Academy is to develop the leadership skills of participants in order to assist them in making the most effective contributions to the growth and development of the Collaborative movement, both locally and internationally.
Our goals are to nurture effective leadership which will support thriving Practice Groups, to build relationships among leaders within the Collaborative community and to ensure the enduring vitality of the Collaborative movement.
The Academy is a year long course of study focusing on cultivating leadership excellence through skill building, dialogue and mentoring. It begins with a two-day retreat being held in conjunction with the 2013 Forum in San Antonio, Texas on Oct. 17. A second two-day in-person retreat will be held in the spring at a location to be determined. The Academy will conclude with its final program of this inaugural year at the 2014 Forum in Vancouver, Canada. Monthly phone bridge and webcast sessions will begin in December, 2013. The course will address topics such as leadership styles, organizational development and skills, organizational culture and conflict resolution, leading volunteers and principles of governance.
Who is eligible?
Candidates to the Leadership Academy must be IACP members and will be considered upon nomination by their Practice Groups. Practice Groups may nominate up to three candidates. However, no more than one candidate from any one Practice Group will be selected. It is expected that upon completion of the course, Leadership Academy graduates will return to their Practice Groups better prepared to serve, lead and inspire their communities.
Candidates must be willing to commit to full participation in and attendance at the in-person retreats as well as all phone bridges and webcast sessions.
In selecting participants, the Leadership Development Committee will be looking for candidates who are open to learning, motivated and goal oriented, with a demonstrated track record of volunteerism and commitment to the Collaborative movement. Qualified candidates may include those who are seeking to acquire leadership skills in order to assume leadership roles, as well as established leaders seeking to hone their skills.
Who are the instructors?
The lead instructors are Nancy Cameron, Q.C., LLB and Anne Lucas, MA, LMHC. Nancy and Anne will be joined by additional experts who will teach certain topics via webcasts and/or teleconferences during the course of the year. Participants will also receive mentoring from recognized leaders within the Collaborative community.
What is the tuition?
Practice Groups whose candidates are selected to participate in the Academy will pay $500 towards their member's tuition. Participants themselves will be responsible for the remaining $500 and their own travel related expenses, which may include flights, hotel accommodations and some meals.
How do I apply?
The deadline for the Leadership Academy application submissions was May 15, 2013. Selected candidates will be notified by August 15, 2013.
